the mobile café project

For almost four years we have been ministering to young homeless and runaways in Austin, Texas. Those years are filled with exciting stories about how the Lord touched peoples lives and how we have been able to serve hundreds of needy and desperate people.
A real problem is all of the distractions that are going on when you are working on the street. People are dealing drugs, the police are checking ID's and the fact that people are constantly coming and going. We found out that when people are out on the street that they are always on some kind of mission. They want to buy drugs or make money. Other than that, they stay in abandoned houses or in parks.
How is it possible to have a serious conversation if there is so much going on? From experience we can tell you that it is really hard and at times it can be very frustrating.
Last summer we were trying to address this issue by opening our "live shop" which was about six blocks from the place where we usually minister. But unfortunately this was too far away. Even though the live shop served us greatly people did not respond very well to it and we closed the live shop this past March.

The Solution !

We are going to create a mobile coffee shop. A place to stay cool in the summer and to stay warm in the winter. A place to give out clothes and snacks.
Most of all we want it to be a place to hang out - a place to experience the presence and the power of God. It shall be a place where we can pray for people and talk to them without the distractions that we have to deal with on the sidewalk.
Also, as soon as we have finished remodeling the trailer we can use it for a lot more than just our outreaches. It will enable us to travel and to minister to our people in other cities. It would also be possible to visit events like the Rainbow Gatherings and to serve people there.
