Christmas Party 2007
On Christmas Day 2006, we had our third annual Christmas party in the Renaissance
Market in Austin. Months in advance many homeless and runaways began asking us if we were having our "party" again this year.
They were still excited about the presents we gave last year. For us it was no question to be there again, because on Christmas Day there
is not much else for the people to do.
This year we had many volunteers who were excited to do whatever they could to help. They made our work easier and we were able to pass out
not only gulaschsoup, donuts and hot chocolate, but also lots of warm clothes.
Prior to our Christmas party, people had donated many hoddies and sweaters. The homeless and runaways were glad to receive them, because of the
recent cold weather in Austin.
The Good News
While preparing for the party, God placed it on our hearts to share some testimonies and devotions. This was a leap of faith, because we had never
done this at a Christmas party.
There were about 30 people on the square and their reaction really excited and encouraged us. They were very open and interested in what we had
to say. Afterwards we were able to pray and have good conversations with many of the people.
Though Christmas has been over for weeks the people still talk about the yummy food and how useful the gifts are. We were able to meet new friends
and strengthen relationships to old ones.
Some people who come to our Christmas party aren`t around for the rest of the year. For us it is always very special to celebrate
Christmas out on the street. Knowing that Jesus loves and cares for each one of those people, being out there isn't a sacrifice,
it´s a privilege.
